Random Thoughts

Tue 9/15

Still looking for a credit card processor to use for store orders.Hopefully I will find a good one soon.I love my e-pipe more and more each day, this thing is a godsend!I also love the e-cigar but since the e-pipe has the largest battery as well as biggest smoke cartridge,I tend to smoke it almost exclusively. The Cigarettes are great for on the go as they are small and lightweight, not to mention be real attention getters as they produce thick clouds of smoke.People seem amazed that your cigarette is really just a battery painted to look like a smoke yet it still puts out actual visible smoke. And if they take a test drag they also find it amazing how much like a real cigarette it TASTES too.

I will try to put up new content on this page at least once a week.It won't be store business but rather  tips, tricks, news and random thoughts.Everybody and their dog seems to have a blog or online forum of some sort, so I figure I might as well join the fray.If my rambling thoughts amuse you I've accomplished something. If not, I apologize in advance.

I am a fan of UBUNTU

I have been using Ubuntu for about a year now and I must say, I am VERY impressed. No crashes so far, no forced restarts like windows seems so fond of and no progressively slower running system over time.If anything, it boots faster and runs more stably with each update than the last.As a longtime Windows user (and hater) I had become used to my system running slower and slower as time went on and needing to do a reformat and clean reinstall at least 2 or 3 time s a year to solve various performance problems.I was also used to having to keep several background services running at all times for security purposes that adversely impacted my overall system responsiveness.good examples are anti-virus and spyware protection. Now I no longer run antivirus on my PC nor do I use a spyware program.Partly because I have good online habits and avoid surfing in dangerous waters in the first place, but also because the real threat level for pc's running linux is so low as to make running antivirus on my machine waste of cpu resources.I can go to known malware sites and NOTHING happens.Even if I foolishly say yes to anything or try to download the malware they are offering since all the sites I have found so far have maleware and viruses written SPECIFICALLY for Windows, on linux it is harmless. It won't run, it won't write itself to systems files and basically CANNOT do anything to compromise the system.Sure you can't play many games natively on Linux, but then again I don't play computer games anyway. And for general websurfing, email blogging shopping etc, Linux works perfectly fine.I have a HTPC hooked up to my big lcd TV and I run Unbuntu 8.10 on it in a dual boot config with WindowsXP.(I HAVE to use windows and IE to access Netflix's instant viewing feature.) But other than Netflix and a handful of other media sites like ABC.com I can watch virtually any type of content on my big TV using the Ubuntu and feel sure that my home network is secure from any but the most dedicated hack attack. And not have to deal with those annoying automatic "restarts" windows does after every other update, usually occuring right in the middle of a movie or tv program I am streaming from a website.Being able to watch tv for a month 24/7 without having your OS nag the crap out of you every 10minutes to restart is sheer HEAVEN.Not that I actually watch that much back to back tv, but running linux, you COULD if you wanted. The PC I am typing this on has been running 24/7 for almost 4 months with no restarts. In an un air-conditioned garage in southeast Texas all summer long I might add.I'm pretty proud of this system as I built it myself.Quad core AMD phenom with 3gigs of ram and 160gb HDD onboard graphics, lan, audio and 19" lcd monitor.Running Linux Ubuntu 9.04 and Ubuntu 8.10 AND Windows XP Pro in a triple boot configuration.I am slowly learning how to do everything I did on windows (dvd copying, photo editing, media encoding, ripping mp3's from vinyl record etc)under Linux.I still have a few programs I grew fond of in Windows I have yet to find a good enough open source replacement to use under Ubuntu but I WILL find a way and a program for doing EVERYTHING sooner or later.I am finally breaking free from the shackles of windows high price for lousy bug ridden software as well as the slimy debacle that is DRM or digital rijhts management.EA games still hasn't learned their lesson about DRM as from what I hear, their new game SPORE installs a malware rootkit along with the game and it WILL NOT uninstall it even if you uninstall the GAME that put it on your system in the first place.
